Worst Gladiators in Starz Spartacus Series

Dagan-scarred-spartacus
A fitting accompaniment to our Top Ten Gladiators, here’s our rundown of the most useless men to wet the sands of the arena with their blood (and maybe piss).

BEWARE: SPOILERS

8:Ashur

Spartacus: Gods of the Arena 2011
Ashur is often noted to be among the least skilled gladiators in Batiatus Ludus. He even himself admits he was ranked lowest. However, the thraex warrior has been seen to have some skill proving that even the lesser men of Batiatus brotherhood stand as greater fighters than any others.
Though most of his victories came through cheating or sheer luck, Ashur has proven his ability against Roman soldiers and a few other gladiators.
His strength came not through the physical, but his wit, cunning and abilities of manipulation.
He was however, killed in combat by Naevia, the poorly trained servant girl.

7:Hamilcar

HamilcarDeath
Hamilcar seems to stand above Ashur in the estimates of his fellow brothers, but he too shows little promise. Often defeated while sparring and never seen to win a battle, he was killed by Roman soldiers during the slave revolt and escape.

6:Arkadios

Arkadios_2
Arkadios stood a champion among Solonius’ Ludus and was chosen as one of four men to execute the Thracian traitor who become known as Spartacus. Easily recognisable by the red serpent image on his shield, he is known for showmanship. He was the first to be killed by the unarmed and untrained slave.

5: Tychos

spartacus-tychos
Described by Ashur as ‘one of the lesser men’, you can be sure that Tychos held little respect while a slave gladiator. An honourable man however, Tychos was killed by Romans while helping Spartacus and Crixus rescue Naevia from the mines.

4:Kerza

Kerza
Without even the muscular build to give the impression of being a powerful warrior, Kerza, branded as Fugitivus was not long a part of Batiatus’ Ludus before being deemed unfit for it and sent to fight among the animals in the Pit. He was killed in his first battle there and had his face removed to be worn as a trophy.

3:Valerius

Valerius
Valerius was killed in battle by the superior fighter Septimus. His weakness was that he lowered his shield whenever he attacked leaving him vulnerable. The Roman nobles in their distant seats could even see this glaring flaw and it was a wonder that the man survived as long as he did as a gladiator.

2:Lysimachus

lysimachus-spartacus
Lysimachus was a Murmillo for Solonius who fought in the opening matches of the new arena. He was pitted against Ashur, who bested him fairly swiftly, either proving Oenomaus’ training once more to be superb compared to other Dottores, or that the man was merely a poor fighter.

1: Mannus and Plenus

Mannus_and_Plenus
Mannus and Plenus accompanied Spartacus and Crixus to the mines in their hope to rescue Naevia. They stood guard in disguise as their companions explored the caves. Their lives were cut short when Ashur recognised them and dispatched them both without even an attempt at defending themselves.
