SPOILERS ABOUND

Before leaving, Samuel advised me to see Piero and pick up any gear I believed I may need. This seemed sound advice, so I took it on board.
I spoke to Piero and perused his wares. I decided, based on my limited budget to purchase just one thing.

It was a tool with which I could rewire my opponents security devices to suit my own needs. I imagined I may find use for it, though it was not a certainty. Better safe than sorry.

On arrival at our destination in the Distillery District, I shared a barbecued rat with Samuel before moving on to the task at hand.

I moved softly along the dock soon noticing activity ahead.

The City Watchmen were throwing bodies of deceased plague victims on board a barge, no doubt to be sent as far from the place as possible.
I overheard them speaking. I was disgusted to hear one of them notice a victim was still alive and yet still hurl them to their death.
Perhaps it was the kindest thing for the sufferer, but the attitude of the men was far from altruistic.

The men on the bridge were preoccupied with their work, so they noticed nothing as I snuck up behind their commander and put him to sleep.
In case they happened to look over and see the man at rest on the ground, I dragged him into a hiding place.

I walked on, unnoticed by the Watchmen and found a woman searching through rubbish bins. I attempted to speak to her but she seemed to frightened to converse with a stranger.
I continued on my way, pressing business at hand when I heard her yell out.
A City Watchman had found her and was attacking.

I defended her honour and the man fell to my blade.
Again, not wishing to have a dead body in clear view on the street, I took his corpse and threw it into one of the barges destined for other shores.

With this small distraction dealt with I felt it was high time to try and pass by the first Light wall.

My first thought was of course, to go directly through. Without a patrolling watchman noticing, I took the whale oil which powered the gate and threw it into a pile of garbage.

However, having gone to this trouble, I decided a more stealthy approach would be wiser than walking straight into sight.
The open gate could act as a distraction anyhow.
I clambered onto the roof using some handily placed crates and found myself with a wonderful overview of the next square.

I moved silently along the roof, looking for a way past the guards below. As I crept, I heard voices in an alley below. It sounded as though someone was being bullied by the gang I had been warned about that prowled the backstreets.

Using my new sight ability I located the men.

Intending to sneakily dispatch the two guards I Blinked down behind them. I was too late however. They had turned about face and were now looking directly at me.

They offered no threat immediately though. The brute closer to me warned that I should back away.
I did not.
He punched me in the face.
I understood the warning better.

My first reaction was to draw my blade and end the cretins there. However, I stopped myself and instead of pulling out my sword, I took out the heart.
The heart told me that the thug had lost his father to the plague and was now trying to make his way in life the best he could.
My feelings of deadly vengeance melted away and I walked from the place, following the hearts lead to another rune.

The heart led me to a wall, so I searched for a way over or around. Climbing and Blinking, I mounted the roof, where I found a dead thug bearing a note.

I wasn’t able to get over the building this way and the thought of the trapped man began to bother me again.
This was obviously the home of Granny Rags, a woman it had been suggested that I visit.
She could wait. That man was terrified right now.

Back around the corner I went, ignoring the rune for now and planted myself on a balcony just above the thugs.
I had just found two more sleep darts conveniently and put them to use.

I cut through the wooden barrier put in place by the thugs and the man inside thanked me.

His name was Griff. He told me that he was a scavenger who would happily sell me any goods he found that I could use.

He went on his way pleased to have found a new ally and I searched the building, following the hearts lead to a Bone Charm.

It had the magical ability to strengthen my crossbow bolts. This could be helpful.

I left the building and again felt that leaving the thugs bodies out in the open may be unwise, especially if any rats wandered this way.
I placed them into a nearby trash receptacle.

Now that I had gotten that off my conscience, I chose to return to Granny Rags place before continuing my real reason for being here. Perhaps she could be of help.

Her door was locked, but I was easily able to Blink up to her balcony and enter that way.

Inside I met the woman.

She seemed quite mad, so I took little stock of what she said, but moments later there was a knock at the door.
She seemed quite unperterbed, but it was obvious that the men were out for money or blood. Granny Rags asked me to see them off, hinting at using fatal force.

I checked the situation.

There were three men out there.

I felt confident that I could dispatch them in the way that Granny had asked, but not being fully aware of the situation leading to this arrangement, I thought a temporary solution would work best for now.
Luckily Granny had a few sleeping darts laying around in her home.
I Blinked to a vantage point behind the men and with speed shot two of them to slumber.
The third turned and began searching for me, never knowing that if he were to look upwards slightly he would have found me.
He strolled past shouting threats the whole time, while I calmly sat safely out of reach.
When his back turned, I blinked to within a pace of him and wrestled him to sleep too.
One by one I dragged the three men into a dark corner.

Granny offered me a rune as a reward. She told me it waited for me upstairs. First though, I found the one which the heart had been leading me to before in her back yard.

I took the two runes happily. Granny Rags appeared behind me and then offered me a second task.
She hoped that I would sneak into a Dr. Galvani’s flat and steal some infected toxin with which to poison the gangs distillery.

I took the suggestion on board and went on my way.
I used the runes to learn a new skill, Possession. I could now use dark magic to take control of creatures such as the rats and fish. I was sure this would be hugely useful for stealth.

The heart was again showing me the way to another prize. Increasing my abilities though not my main objective would no doubt aid me greatly, so I felt it would be unwise to miss these chances.
I walked back to the bridge. More graffiti.

Now I would have to sneak past the men who previously had been completely preoccupied with hurling bodies off the edge.

A series of Blinks made this a breeze.

Now a huge barrier stood between me and the charm.
Fortunately a rat was wandering alone just by the place. My conveniently timed new power was my ticket through.
I took possession of the rodent and darted through the small gap that I would never have been able to slip through.

Retaking my own form I found the charm in the possession of a corpse. A sight growing uncomfortably common.

This charm granted mana potions more potency.
There were no rats on this side of the door, so I required another way out.
Fortunately a chain provided a simple route out – and would have been a way in had I found it before the rat.

I was forced to swim across the water back to the place where Samuel had originally left me and where he yet sat.
The entire time I had another fish snapping at my heel. It felt the sting of my blade in reaction once I reached dry land.

Essentially I was back at square one, however at least this time I had more power under my belt.
I strolled back across the dock where I had been before, seeing the slumbering man where I had left him.
I also found a note.

I recalled seeing some graffiti were I had just found the Bone Charm. It was something about Gwen and a lover, but I do not think the second name was Arthur…

Now, back to the task.
I climbed back to the roof on which I had been so long before. Going the ground level route did not seem to be an option.

I could see the Doctors office across the square.

The square however had a number of City Watch patrolling it.
The one closest to me was isolated. As long as I avoided the rats he would have posed no problem.
I Blinked down behind him and took him by surprise, then left him to sleep in an alley.

With a few more Blinks I was across the street and inside the Doctors building.

I then began to question how wise it would be to purposely spread the plague, coupled that with the thought that I would have to sneak past the two men inside and likely more besides to go on a quest that was taking time from my main goal.
At the moment I made the decision to abandon this task, one of the guards spied me.
I quickly darted out of the door and jumped over the stair rail to the alley below.
The two men that were inside had followed me out, so I remained still and silent.
They did not give up so easily though as I suspected they would. Instead of returning to the building, they began patrolling, looking for me.
One came down the stairs behind me waving a torch ahead of him. I knew if I stayed where I was I would be found. I darted under the stairs and found myself dangerously close to a group of rats.
I jumped on top of some crates to stay out of reach, which fortunately worked.
A second guard had by this time followed the first into the alley and they were making their way towards my poor hiding place.
As they came under the stairs I Blinked back on top of them and turned to watch in horror as the two men were overwhelmed by the little beasts.

As I stood stunned, watching two men being ripped to shreds, I failed to notice a third guard come upon me from behind.
We fought and I slew him.
I decided that I had best not waste the opportunity to dispose of the body and threw him to the rats for dessert.

The many that had not been sliced by swords made short work of the corpses.
I was able to go on my way undisturbed.

Around a corner, I saw three men stood about another on the ground arguing about how to divide up the loot. One’s ideas sat poorly with the other two and soon a second corpse lay on the ground.

I was spotted by the two that were left and it seemed they did not wish to leave any witnesses. They tried to kill me, but I beat them to it.
It turned out that their original victim had been a member of the City Watch.

What with my recent dealings with them, it was difficult to feel sympathy.

Around the corner, the heart informed me of another nearby rune. It was sat inside a manned guard box.

A second guard was patrolling the street, but the one I had to target was facing the entirely wrong direction. Getting the better of him was easy.

I left him at the bottom of the stairs to sleep while I returned to collect the rune and dispatch the other City Watchman.

I could then move on.

I entered the next square to find where Overseer Martin was being kept prisoner.

I crept in close making sure the man watching over him did not become aware of my presence.

I knocked him out and hid him behind a sign, which had my name all over it.

I then returned to Martin.

He was pleased to be freed and told me that he would meet me again back at the pub.

For now, I should continue with my task, going after my target – High Overseer Campbell.
