Fashionista Thinks Adele is Too Fat

Karl Lagerfeld, 78 year old creative director and lead designer for Chanel recently commented on Adele in an interview with Metro New York on the 6th Feb 2012.

He said “She is a little too fat, but she has a beautiful face and a divine voice.”

Of course a comment such as this has caused uproar among the masses who believe it is simply wrong to call someone fat. Especially when the woman in question is only a little bit overweight and pretty much on par with a huge bulk of the western worlds population, many of which probably do not have beautiful faces or divine voices to make up for it.

Adele responded to the comment fairly quickly making it clear that she does not care and is proud of her image; (good on her). She is happy to represent ‘real’ women and says:

“I’ve never wanted to look like models on the cover of magazines. I represent the majority of women and I’m very proud of that.”

“I don’t want to be some skinny mini with my t*** out. I really don’t want to do it and I don’t want people confusing what it is that I’m about.”

Lagerfeld has since attempted an apology and explanation for the comment:

“I’d like to say to Adele that I am your biggest admirer. Sometimes when you take a sentence out of the article it changes the meaning of the thought. What I said was in relation to Lana Del Rey and the sentence has since been taken out of context from how it was originally published. I actually prefer Adele, she is my favorite singer and I am a great admirer of her. I lost over 30 kilos over 10 years ago and have kept it off. I know how it feels when the press is mean to you in regards to your appearance.  Adele is a beautiful girl. She is the best. And I can’t wait for her next CD.”

Digging through the boot lickery stuff and pulling out the excuse seems to have Lagerfeld saying that the ‘too fat’ comment was originally intended for Lana Del Rey and was merely taken out of context. Is it true? Here is the original quote (in context) when he was asked for his thoughts on Del Rey:

“I prefer Adele and Florence Welch. But as a modern singer she is not bad. The thing at the moment is Adele. She is a little too fat, but she has a beautiful face and a divine voice. Lana Del Rey is not bad at all.”

Hmm… doesn’t look like the ‘too fat’ was meant for Del Rey. What other evidence is there?

How about this?:

34-24-32,

120lbs,

5’7″

Yeah… she’s huge…

Just in case you’re not convinced that Lagerfeld is an idiot:

That same interview threw up a few other opinions from the successful businessman. Really, why do we let these people have power?

On Weight:

No one wants to see curvy women. You’ve got fat mothers with their bags of chips sitting in front of the television and saying thin models are ugly.

Cracking Ace response is here.

On Queen Elizabeth:

She looks a little bit like her grandmother – a more smiley version. In terms of what she wears, she’s come into herself a little bit more – whatever that is.

Why say something is something if you don’t know what that something is?

On the Monarchy:

It’s good for the tourists because it brings a lot of money in. It’s totally unnecessary, but it’s pleasant. Why not have the monarchy? People can dream about it.

Nice to hear that a long standing tradition is ‘totally unnecessary’. For those who don’t care for the monarchy, there are plenty of reasons why not to have it. For those who do like it, then there are reasons to keep it around.

On Lana Del Rey (cont.):

Lana Del Rey is not bad at all. She looks very much like a modern-time singer. In her photos she is beautiful. Is she a construct with all her implants? She’s not alone with implants.

Is he asking whether she’s some kind of cybernetic super woman? Also.. what implants?

On Russian Women:

If I was a woman in Russia I would be a lesbian, as the men are very ugly. There are a few handsome ones, like Naomi Campbell’s boyfriend, but there you see the most beautiful women and the most horrible men.

Good to see tarring entire nations with the same brush is still in fashion.

On Greece:

They have this reputation of being so corrupt. You can’t be sure the money will go where it’s supposed to go. They need to build trust, and that takes time too. Nobody wants Greece to disappear, but they have really disgusting habits – Italy as well.

Goes from a speculation about a reputation to clearly saying that do in fact deserve it. Italy as well.

On voting:

I never voted in my life. I will never vote. I know too much about politics from what’s going on backstage. To vote you have to believe all that garbage that they promise you, and they can’t keep those promises. If someone gave me an Obama pin, I would just put it on.

If you like Obama, then vote for him. Or if you know some underhanded, backstabbing secrets from the top then tell people so we can vote for better leaders!

On magazine culture:

People in magazines are 50% bimbo and 50% pregnant women.

So every person who appears in magazines is four and half months pregnant and shag around every other day?

Being a hypocrite:

Be politically correct, but don’t become a bore for that. People should be sensitive in these matters, but not make so much noise. Be politically correct, but do we have to know your opinion?
